A Search for Meaning
Living itself is a misery. Survival is nothing but a daily chorus that you have to perform to exist in this universe. Eat the same food that you don't like, do the same thing that you might but probably don't want to, sleep on time, commute to wherever you are required to go. In the midst of all of these, we've a hope in our hearts and minds, a desire to be happy.
So, What's happiness? In my opinion, happiness is not to be successful or achieve something great, but it is to be loved and cared for. A small act of kindness lights up our day. A small meaningful interaction is enough for us to make us forget all our stress. Therefore, happinness is nothing but connection.
So, whom do we want to connect in life? We're born with a hardwired brain that prefers certain character trait in the other person, which is more likely to resemble traits of your own. Anyone who don't fall into the category, we just reject them on a subconscious level, and in the same way, we get rejected as well.
As a human, we've faced multiple rejections throughout our lifespan. These failures has dettered us from seeking what we truly desire. A fear that sets in causes us to not even try altogether. Consequently, we're lonelier than we were ever before. A never ending cycle from hell.
Now, let's imagine a certain hypothetical scenario. Let's imagine we've attained what we truly wanted on a superficial level. It may be wealth, power, success, beauty, or fame. Surely we become happy, but let me ask you how long would the happiness last. Eventually and certainly, we get used to these things that we had desired. They no longer resonate as they used to in the past. To clarify, remember one time that you truly wanted something. Remember the time when you craved for a thing, and how you thought that thing would truly make you happy, but after having it for a while you no longer feel the same way about it. So, is the case with any of these superficial entities that everyone desires.
When you've no one to celebrate your success, that success no longer holds any value. The only reason a human desires to be successful is to be happy, if you can't be happy despite the success, you simply worked hard for nothing.
